SEMANA SANTA (HOLY WEEK)

These are 'alfombras' which means 'carpets' in spanish. They are made of dyed and moist sawdust. people spend days designing them and then on good friday religious groups, youth groups and families go into the street that are closed off and decorate the streets for the march that happens later in the night. There were nearly 50 in all of progresso, but these were the best.

yep, that's the pope on the street...they sure do love the pope down here in latin america...that new guy's gonna have to work real hard to get an alfombra of him on the streets of progreso!

This one got a little political with the newspaper clippings of world injustices...nice job!

A guy putting the finishing touches on his carpet...this was one of my favorites

And of course anything with a bleeding heart is cool
